Council backs Chalk River employees

COBDEN -Whitewater council is confident Renfrew County council will fully support a resolution calling on the federal government to establish a multi-purpose reactor at Chalk River.

Council this week reviewed a similar resolution from the townships of Head, Clara and Maria that requests Ottawa commit to supporting Canadian nuclear technology and research through a national laboratory.

Mayor Donald Rathwell said County council will consider a motion next week when the Chalk River Employees Ad Hoc Task ForcE (CREATE) presents their concepts and plans to the upper tier body. He said Canada already has the basis for an excellent facility at Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's Chalk River Laboratories.
